Ground personnel working on the apron, under and around aircraft, heavy machinery and small vehicles, the airside worker must have a strong sense of situational awareness. Airside work covers a number of occupations; baggage handler, marshall, de/anti-icer, re-fueller, wildlife controller, driver , and loader operator.

Knowledge of airside operating procedures, commonly used airside terminology, and aerodrome work is essential. Airside workers need to have a clear understanding of the areas of the apron and airfield, possession of a specialist airside vehicle operator permit, and need to be able to distinguish between the safe and dangerous zones of aircraft.

Career Pathway

  • In-house training for certification in radio-phony, vehicle operations, safety management systems, airport signage and protocols; security procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Airside Worker Safety and Security Workshops

  • Able to work outdoors in any weather
  • Familiarity with radio telephony and communication procedures
